Jaume Collet-Serra Exits Suicide Squad, Joins Disney's Jungle Cruise Instead

It looks like Suicide Squad 2 is going to need a new director… again!

Jaume Collet-Serra Exits Suicide Squad, Joins Disney's Jungle Cruise Instead

In early July, Spanish director Jaume Collet-Serra was named the frontrunner to take over directing the Suicide Squad sequel after David Ayer decided to focus on the Gotham City Sirens spinoff instead. However, reported today on Deadline, Collet-Serra has just accepted a job directing Disney's Jungle Cruise starring Dwayne Johnson.

Unless Collet-Serra has perfected cloning technology — and there's no evidence that he has — he can't be in two places at once, so he can only direct one movie at a time. Betting on Disney, The Rock, and the opportunity to direct a new franchise that has been compared to Indiana Jones, if Indiana Jones were based on a theme park ride, Collet-Serra has ditched Warner Bros' superhero universe for the chance to do his own thing rather than taking over from Ayer.

No word yet on who could replace Collet-Serra, but perhaps Mel Gibson is still interested. At press time, Warner Bros was spotted reading an issue of Cosmopolitan with the cover story "12 ways to keep your director interested." Hopefully, they're able to learn something from the magazine's tips.
