Michael Davis Talks The Representation Of People Of Color In America

Though the panel got off to a rocky start, it was full of powerful emotions that I think many in the room could relate to.  It is not often that I see a black man so open and honest about his emotions and struggles in a public setting it was power to see and incredibly important.

Michael Davis talked about being tired but a tired in way that many people of color in America feel from watching the news and looking around their communities.  He showed a clip of a piece that Trevor Noah did on the daily show about Philando Castile.  We weren't here to talk about the representation of people of color in the comic book industry but about our representation in America and in many ways these things are the same.

To this end Davis announced the launch of the foundation he founded with Wayne Brady.  Level Next was established to create stories by and people of color.  It looks to create a space and opportunity for stories to be told that may not be able to see the light of day otherwise.

Michael Davis is the co-founder of Milestone Comics and co-creator of Static, and he's regular contributor to Bleeding Cool.
