Erika Lewis And J.K. Woodward's '49th Key' Debuting At SDCC, Ahead Of New Frazetta/Heavy Metal Deal
49th Key is an original story from Erika Lewis and artist J.K. Woodward debuting at San Diego Comic-Con, courtesy of Heavy Metal. 120 painted pages long, it was initially serialized in Heavy Metal Magazine from 2015-2016. Its collection debuted at the show.
49th Key is based on the 16th century legend of Enochian magic, which tells of a secret language of angels. The first chapter in an expansive fantasy series tells of a rogue archeologist and a young mute boy on a treacherous journey through England to bring the boy home. The boy turns out to be the key to a gateway between our world and that of Enochia, a magical society that exists below the Earth's surface, filled with fantasy creatures and highly advanced humans.
With 12 never-before-seen pages, this special numbered edition of 49th Key is available only at SDCC 2017. The regular edition graphic novel will hit shelves on November 1st in comic shops, and November 14th in bookstores.
Lewis and Woodward will be signing in Heavy Metal's booth (#1529) daily on Friday and Saturday at 1 p.m., where you will also find this exclusive Frank Frazetta print and Iron Maiden #666 comic which just arrived this morning. And there's news about a larger partnership between the Frazettas and Heavy Metal forthcoming, I'm told.
