Sales Of CALEXIT Comics To Fund New Progressive Political Candidates, With A Super PAC

The release of CALEXIT #1 from Black Mask Comics last week has had an immediate impact. The comic by Matteo Pizzolo and Amancay Nahuelpan which sold out fast, even with a high print run for the publisher has stretched out its tentacles further and wider.

The New York Times, in a report into how politics is being represented in comic books, makes mention that Pizzolo, will also document the creation of Become The Government, his "super PAC" to support local progressive candidates who are new to politics and will be financed by his earnings from sales of the comic series.

With Marvel Comics reportedly moving away from overtly political stories, and divisions and cracks being widened in the comics communities over various campaigns and support of political causes by comic book creators, this appears to be a rather bold move in the cultural climate. But it's one that shouldn't be out of kilter with the political messages in the comic book. Pizzolo tells the NYT,

"We could rely on the federal government in the past, but I think a lot of people no longer feel that way… we are inspired to be more directly involved in the political process than we have in the past. We need to work in our communities and our regions constructively. We need to learn to work together and get over preconceptions about one another."

Here's a preview of the comic book that, with every sale, may be changing the political landscape of the USA.
