The Often Ignored Backbone Of Great Movies: Supporting Cast Members Need More Recognition

You're a member of the core supporting cast of one of the biggest movies of the year. This movie is shattering box office records across the board, garnering headlines around the world, and becoming one of the biggest movies of the year. Your presence in the movie has been heavily noted as a positive step in the direction of representation in Hollywood. This is a comic book movie and the biggest comic book convention is this weekend yet you find yourself without even an invite. This is exactly what happened to Wonder Woman actor Eugene Brave Rock as he revealed on twitter.

The exclusion of Brave Rock speaks of a deeper under-appreciation of supporting cast members in these big blockbuster films. While the lead actors in a movie are extremely important, if they don't have a good supporting cast then the production will fall apart. These supporting actors are often ignored and apparently forgotten by the convention or studio circuits. Wonder Woman is one of the biggest movies of the year, and Warner Bros and Comic-Con International could have attracted even more attention to this film if they had Brave Rock there. The various reports around the internet that he could be a demigod have been getting huge hits on news sites. The original 1918 Wonder Woman photo which included Sameer (Saïd Taghmaoui), Steve Trevor (Chris Pine), Chief (Eugene Brave Rock) and Charlie (Ewen Bremner) and appeared in Batman v Superman has generated a steady flow of curious readers to that post since it was originally written in March 2016 to the present day.

There are a lot of people who put so much time into making the movies we love, and many of them never get the recognition they deserve. However, the supporting cast is there to help elevate and hold a movie together. The supporting cast of Wonder Woman was one of the best parts of the movie and while it would still have been good from the lead performances, direction, and production, the supporting cast took it to the next level. In blockbusters with rapid fans they would love the opportunity to meet some of these people. The conventions and studios need to do better for the underappreciated cast members if they're going to continue to live and die by blockbusters.
