Shea Fontana On Taking Over Wonder Woman And Genetic Editing Technology

Between the Greg Rucka, Liam Sharp and Nicola Scott run on the character and the Gal Gadot lead feature film, Wonder Woman has the spotlight fully on her right now. With issue #26 a new creative team has stepped in with writer Shea Fontana and artist Mirka Andolfo and they will be diving into some secrets of the Amazons. Fontana joined DC All Access to talk about the new story arc. She starts off by assuring fans that they are building on the last 25 issues and not trying to take anything away from them. Diana returns home from an overseas battle where everything was black & white and the bad guys were obvious, but now things aren't as clear and she is trying to figure out who she is and what she is doing at a time of peace. A big aspect of it is going to be Diana's relationship with Etta Candy, that they really like each other and have each other's backs. Fontana wants to focus on Wonder Woman's heart and compassion, how she relates to people is at the heart of a good Wonder Woman story.

She goes on to talk about a new genetic editing technology called CRISPR and how Diana's DNA might be used to eradicate many genetic problems in the world. Fontana refers to this as a moral gray area on whether genetic manipulation is the right thing to do and knowing how Diana wants to help people, For more information on CRISPR, you can check out this article on CosmosMagazine.com
