Lucy Liu Directs The Premiere Episode Of Marvel’s Luke Cage Season 2

Back in June, Elementary star Lucy Liu was seen on the set of Marvel’s Luke Cage including posing for a photo with actor Mike Colter at the Harlem Coffee Co. This of course lead to lots of speculation that Liu would be appearing in an episode of the series second season. According to Buzzfeed, Liu is not appearing in the series… she’d directed the first episode.

Liu, who has directed episodes of both Graceland and Elementary said in a statement:

What a thrill to collaborate with Marvel and Netflix, two industry titans, who paint our world with inspiring stories and beguiling characters. It is such an honor to work with such a passionate and fearless team.

Executive producer Jeph Loeb, said this of Liu’s vision for the first episode.

When you’re dealing with a bulletproof man, it helps if you have a bulletproof director. Lucy brings a keen eye, a superb sense of story, and an obvious love of actors. She is rocking¬†Luke Cage 2.

Last year, Liu talked about the challenges of women getting directing opportunities with the Associated Press.

It’s harder for women in general. You have to ask and ask and ask. You have to break the door down … and come in with a real belief in what you’re doing.

Marvel’s Luke Cage season 2 will debut in 2018 on Netflix.
