Thoughts On Great Balls Of Fire PPV: Entertaining, But Predictable

Last night, the WWE premiered their newest pay-per-view event, Great Balls of Fire. The PPV boasted a few good matches: a 30-minute Iron Man tag team event with The Hardy Boys vs Sheamus and Cesaro; and Alexa Bliss vs Sasha Banks. The ambulance match was with Roman Reigns and Braun Strowman, and the main event was a title match with Samoa Joe and Brock Lesnar.

The matches were all pretty brutal, and there was a lot of blood. I covered two other matches, and frankly I was overall lukewarm to this PPV. My boyfriend, however, was into last night's festivities. The matches were largely predictable with no title changes, but I will say the ambulance match was intense. Reigns may have lost that battle, but watching him throw Strowman into the ambulance, drive off, and then back into a truck was actually pretty insane. Seeing Kurt Angle's face at the aftermath was probably not supposed to be as funny as it was, but damn if I didn't laugh.

The main event between Joe and Lesnar was also intense. The two men are large and command respect in the ring, and watching them toss each other around was great. Joe started the match before the bell rung and did some damage, asserting his dominance in the ring. Lesnar did deliver a number of suplexes to Joe, many one after the other. Joe in turn delivered a number of cochina clutches, but through it all I still found myself watching the clock. Lesnar ultimately retained the title, and thus no title changes happened tonight.

Great Balls Of Fire would have been more exciting if at least one belt changed, but alas. I guess that's what RAW and Smackdown are for.
