Square Enix Shows Off New Footage Of 'Dragon Quest XI'

At the Countdown Carnival in Sapporo this weekend, Square Enix brought a little surprise with them. Game footage of Dragon Quest XI, complete with the fourth "restriction" available in the game: Restricted Play. The first three affected your ability to shop, equip armor, run from battles. This fourth one will cut off certain features in the game from being accessed during play, like being able to control your battles or speak to people in town properly. You know, just in case you need someone around to be an embarrassment.

Square Enix Shows Off New Footage Of 'Dragon Quest XI'

The footage below is over an hour long with some info from members of the development team talking people through what's going on. Unfortunately, it is in Japanese with no translation, so you'll need to be fluent to know what's going on. You at least get a good look at the "Labyrinth Beyond Time" dungeon which has some references to a previous Dragon Quest game, as well as the "Ominous Bird's Ravine" dungeon. Along with a lot of awkward footage of older Japanese game developers acting weird. We won't criticize it because we've seen our fair share of American and European devs do weird stuff. But that skull head in the restaurant is… yeah. Enjoy the footage!
