Bleeding Cool Bestseller List – 2nd July 2017 – Elmer Fudd Doesn't Quite Outsell Secret Empire #5

This is the Top Ten Bleeding Cool Bestseller List, as compiled by a number of comic stores from their sales on Wednesday and Thursday. It measures what are known as the "Wednesday Warriors", those who can't wait to the weekend to get this week's comics. We salute you, and the keenness you bring to your passion.

This week was a little harder as an overenthusiastic firewall got in the way… fixed by next week I hope! Flash #25 took a clear lead, with Elmer Fudd's clash with Batman almost beating Secret Empire. And Redneck makes its first entry into the top ten…

  1. Flash #25
  2. Detective Comics #959
  3. Secret Empire #5
  4. Batman/Elmer Fudd #1
  5. Action Comics #982
  6. Edge Of Venomverse #1
  7. Suicide Squad #20
  8. Amazing Spider-Man #29
  9. Hal Jordan And The Green Lantern Corps #23
  10. Redneck #3

Thanks to the following retailers

And who had this to say.

Not too bad of a week. Secret Empire and Star Wars Poe Dameron made the top ten for Marvel. Flash made it for first. X O Manowar snuck in our top ten. People are really digging the title.

Aquaman Rebirth back issues took off for us this week. Amazing Spider-man first series seen some love. Green Arrow from all previous runs also had interest this week.

Batman Elmer Fudd has been the most successful Looney Tunes/ DC crossover yet in an already wildly popular idea.  Venom is in the water around here so that did great.  Everything else is about the same ol' same ol'.

We had a buy 4 get 4 free sale for the 4th of July so anything and everything went.  We had a Fantastic Four #5 which spent about 25 minutes on the shelf before someone came to get it.  The power of posting pics online.  We've had a bit of a buying streak recently and still have an Amazing Spider-man #1, Justice League #2,  Avengers #4 graded and ungraded, and an Avengers #87 graded.

Pretty usual week at FFF with Detective Comics at the top spot. Edge of Venomverse was our second top seller, almost selling as many copies of Detective Comics. Redneck and Saga also made the Top Ten, Redneck at #4 and Saga unusually low at #9. Batman/Elmer Fudd came in at #7 which isn't actually a surprise as it was actually a solid issue. We sold out by the second day AND still had people coming in looking for it. DC actually knows how to take a joke and turn it into a compelling story, meanwhile Marvel takes two popular one-note characters and mashes them together hoping that people will bite. And then we end up with Gwenompool.

Marvel fared a little better in the Top Twenty with four more titles. Secret Empire landed just outside of the Top Ten at #12. Amazing Spider-Man, Deadpool vs Punisher, and The Defenders were all at the bottom of the Top Twenty.

I don't see the second issue of Edge of Venomverse selling nearly as well as the first. People love Venom and people love Wolverine, very few people care enough about Gwenpool to buy her actual book, let alone a one shot story. Secret Empire hasn't changed much in sales. It dropped off pretty heavily by the third issue and now it just seems to be kind of coasting on the few die hard Marvel fans we still have but with the delay of issue I can't imagine the sales getting better.

For back issues, we've been selling a lot of late silver and bronze age back issues from a collection we bought recently. Including some Iron Fist, Incredible Hulk, and Detective Comics. On top of that we've sold the usual Batman, Spider-Man, X-Men and Rebirth back issues.

Marvel took two places in our store's Top Ten this week–and both books were mainline Marvel superhero titles, not Star Wars books. The real surprise is that both of this week's DC/Looney Tunes crossover books hit the top ten, with Batman/Elmer Fudd coming in at a solid third place!

Continued interest in affordably priced 1990s Marvel and DC titles, and we're now seeing some interest in back-issue Sonic the Hedgehog, since it seems like we're not going to see any new Sonic for the foreseeable future.
