343 Industries Gives Mild Approval To Fan-Made 'Halo' Game

While 343 Industries sits in solitude working on Halo 6, some fans have taken the charge to make their own Halo game on the side. Below is a trailer for a fan-made Halo spinoff called Installation 01. The game is made using Unity 5 engine and assets from the Halo franchise which will likely be released on PC.

The crazy part to all of this is that 343 Industries isn't shutting down the project, and in a recent update from the creators of Installation 01, they got a mild fistbump of approval from the company because it isn't making any money.

"Installation 01 has been maintaining a level of contact with 343 Industries over the past several months. We initially reached out to a company representative and spoke with him about getting into contact with Microsoft/343's legal department to answer a few inquiries we had about the legality of our project. This representative has acted as a kind of liaison between our team and 343 since then, and we have maintained a level of transparency with 343 Industries (through our contact) regarding Installation 01's plans, the scope of the project, our goals, and how we as a team aim to meet and support those goals long-term.

Not a lot of projects like this get to go beyond the initial testing phase without the IP owners coming in and shutting it down. Even the most famous Halo fan project turned success, Red vs. Blue from Rooster Teeth, eventually had to partner with Bungie and then 343 Industries to continue using assets as their company grew. Here's hoping this project can see it's way to fruition and give multiplayer fans a unique experience as they wait for the next official game to come out.
