Toy Story Writer Debunks Tragic Theory Of Andy's Dad

There is a popular theory about the Toy Story movies that involves Andy's dad. The basics of the story were put out there by Mike Mozart, a product designer, claiming to have been told it by Joe Ranft, a Pixar writer who has passed away. The story is that Andy Sr. died about a year prior to the first movie from Post-Polio Syndrome. His son is given a toy box that contains a cowboy doll, a Slinky-dog and Mr. Potato Head. The doll, Woody, is extra special in that it was a one-of-a-king prototype involving a cereal company that never went into production. A video from the SuperCarlinBrothers Youtube page below gives all the details and shows 'evidence' from the film that backs up the story.

Accept, according to Andrew Stanton the writer of all three films, it's not true. Stanton tweeted out that it's "Complete and utter fake news." Adding "Everyone go back to your homes. Nothing to see here." and even threw in the hashtag #iwasthere.

It's not uncommon for fans to try and expand on stories like this. The years old rumor that Harrison Ford's character of Rick Deckard being the sixth replicant is making the rounds again as the new Blade Runner film approaches. But most of the time film makers are happy to let fans speculate as it keeps people talking about the film. Something about this particular theory must have hit Stanton the wrong way for him to come out and say something.
