Could American Assassin Be The Next John Wick?

Making a good movie is one thing, kicking off a good action franchise is something else. James Bond has been the source of 25 movies, Jason Bourne 5 counting the one without Matt Damon, Jack Ryan is up there as well and now there is John Wick. CBS and Lionsgate are trying hard to launch a new franchise based on the character of Mitch Rapp from the bestselling novels by the late Vince Flynn. They've tapped an up-and-coming star in Dylan O'Brien to play Rapp, a fan-favorite veteran in Michael Keaton to play his mentor Stan Hurley and got Taylor Kitsch to play the bad guy called Ghost. They also tapped Michael Cuesta, who has worked on Dexter, Homeland and Elementary, to direct this revenge tale / franchise starter. The film also stars Sanaa Lathan and Shiva Negar.

American AssassinOfficial synopsis:

American Assassin follows the rise of Mitch Rapp (Dylan O'Brien), a CIA black ops recruit under the instruction of Cold War veteran Stan Hurley (Michael Keaton). The pair is then enlisted by CIA Deputy Director Irene Kennedy (Sanaa Lathan) to investigate a wave of apparently random attacks on both military and civilian targets. Together the three discover a pattern in the violence leading them to a joint mission with a lethal Turkish agent (Shiva Negar) to stop a mysterious operative (Taylor Kitsch) intent on starting a World War in the Middle East.

American Assassin hits theaters September 15th.
