Historic WWE Women's Ladder Match: It Sucked

For weeks the WWE boasted about how they were becoming more progressive with women's wrestling. How they now have the most female wrestlers–including the NXT roster, how they've come so far since the days of Mae Young and The Fabulous Moolah. Women are movers and shakers in the WWE! So when it was announced on Smackdown that there would be a WWE Women's Money in the Bank Ladder Match at the pay per view of the same name, I was sincerely excited. The athletes they had lined up–Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch, Natalya, Carmella, Tamina Snuka–are all exceptional at their sport. This had the makings of an exceptional match.

After a few valiant tries by Flair and Tamina respectively, it was ultimately Carmella's on screen boyfriend–James Ellsworth–who climbed that ladder and won. I didn't really care who won (I'm a Nia Jax fan), but I do care that the WWE made a huge deal about how great their female wrestlers are.

Only to have a guy swoop in and steal the spotlight. It cheapens the win for Carmella, and is a slap in the face. Thankfully Twitter understands how annoying it is, and some people had some, well, thoughts about it.

SmackDown live GM Daniel Bryan seemed to hear the cries from fans as well, and addressed the controversy properly.

Look, I get it. It's all scripted. But it's still cheap and frankly stupid. I am however, curious to see what happens as a result of this. I've recently gotten back into wrestling (I'm sure some of you may have noticed), and I sincerely hope this isn't a trend for WWE. After what the company has done in the past with other female wrestlers (Chyna) I had hoped they had made great improvements and was looking forward to the WWE Women's Money in the Bank Ladder Match. But, I guess we'll see how it's fixed.

Also, I'm sad The New Day lost that match.
