As detailed last week, Valiant are teeing up the new Bloodshot Salvation #1 – the upcoming series presenting a new beginning to writer Jeff Lemire’s “Eisner Award-nominated Bloodshot saga” with artists Lewis LaRosa and Mico Suayan – as the publisher’s next major series in the wake of Matt Kindt’s X-O Manowar and Arrival screenwriter Eric Heisserer’s upcoming Secret Weapons.
We’d already told you about the seres’ 12-issue pre-order bundle, which is asking fans to subscribe to Bloodshot Salvation’s first year with their local comic shop and receive an exclusive comic, the Bloodshot Salvation #1 Rampage Redux.
Now the publisher is adding even more fuel to their promotion for the series with the Bloodshot Salvation #1 Brushed Metal Variant – Valiant’s second “groundbreaking, all-metal cover” following up from the method pioneered last year for the launch of X-O Manowar.
Revealed today in arranged PR at CBR, artwork for Valiant’s latest armor-plated cover is by series interior artist Mico Suayan. One copy will be made available to stores who order 250 copies or more, limited to one per store — down half from the 1:500 qualifying amount for the X-O Manowar #1 Brushed Metal Variant earlier this year.
Says Valiant CEO Dinesh Shamdasani:
“It took more than a year of research and testing to source the correct materials and perfect the printing process in order to produce the first, true metal cover in the history of comics… But we have not been resting on our laurels. Together with our printing partners, we’ve been able to further refine the process and reduce the cost – a savings that we are passing on to fans and retailers with a lower threshold needed to obtain the BLOODSHOT SALVATION #1 Brushed Metal Variant. We’re very happy to announce that we’ll be offering the cover at half the ratio of the first.”
Promised as the start of a “bloody and “vengeful” new jumping-on point for Lemire’s work on Bloodshot that began with The Valiant and Bloodshot Reborn, his latest ongoing series will span two timelines: the present (with art by LaRosa), where Bloodshot must undergo a revenge mission to rescue his wife and infant daughter from her father’s “sadistic clan of homegrown criminals”, and the near future, where his adolescent daughter is now grappling with Bloodshot powers of her own.
The series also promises to introduce “a massive new cast of villains” – including a new version of classic Valiant villain Rampage and Omen, the next evolution of Project Rising Spirit – and will feature the first full appearance of Jessie, Bloodshot’s daughter and major new character, after a brief cameo in Free Comic Book Day.
Bloodshot Salvation #1 goes on sale September 20th from Valiant Entertainment with covers by Kenneth Rocafort, Monika Palosz, Tomas Giorello, Ryan Bodenheim, Greg Smallwood, and Dave Johnson.
