BookExpo 2017 ended their first night on a charitable note with the 2017 Silent Art Auction to Benefit ABFE and Every Child a Reader, presented in conjunction with the Children's & Teen Choice Book Awards and sponsored by the ABC Children's Group at American Booksellers Association (ABA) and the Children's Book Council (CBC). The auction was held Wednesday evening, March 31st, in the South Corridor of the Jacob K. Javits Center, and consisted of artwork donated by more than 125 artists…ranging from Sophie Blackall and Mark Hoffman to Sydney Hanson and Ian Schoenherr… with proceeds to benefit the American Booksellers for Free Expression (ABFE) and Every Child a Reader.

An added bonus to this year's Silent Art Auction was that it also served as a celebration of the 75th anniversary of Random House's Little Golden Books line, which first published in 1942 and has had a positive impact on children's reading successes for decades since that time. Speaking on the ABA website, Professor and advocate for children's literature Susannah Richards (who also coordinated the artwork for the auction) expressed her belief that the contributing artists really got into the spirit of the event: "There are so many wonderful pieces, including art from previously published and forthcoming books, as well as original art to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Little Golden Books. It is great to see the generosity of spirit and talent from well-established artists as well as newcomers to the field."

Here are just some of my takeaways from the artwork on display and up for auction…hope you enjoy!
