'Aquaman' Will Take Place After 'Justice League'

The timeline of the DCEU movies thus far have been chronological (for the most part) but the upcoming Wonder Woman is going to change that by being the first prequel in the series. We don't know when the other solo DCEU movies are set and with Aquaman currently filming it was time for someone to ask; are we getting an origin story for Aquaman or are we just going to jump into the fun? CinemaBlend sat down with executive producer Charles Roven that Aquaman will take place after Justice League.

Aquaman will make reference [to Justice League]. There will be some reference of something that preceded Aquaman that will be in Aquaman. I believe that is the intention.

While that does confirm this movie coming out in 2018 will take place after Justice League Roven did make sure to point out that doesn't mean they won't ever touch on stories that happened earlier in the DCEU.

James [Wan] definitely knows where he's going with [Aquaman], and that movie takes place in a world where Justice League happened, and Man of Steel happened, and Wonder Woman obviously takes place before Man of Steel — except for the bookends we have. So that's where we have the most ability to freeform. We could do a movie that takes place after Justice League, we can do a movie that takes place after Batman v Superman… well not really. You can't do a movie in between Batman v Superman and Justice League, but we can do movies that take place after Justice League and we can do movies that precede Justice League.

There is quite a lot of buzz for Aquaman after he stole every scene he was in in the Justice League trailer and the set photos are showcasing a whole new type of movie we haven't seen in the DCEU. If Aquaman ends up being a huge hit it wouldn't be surprising if DC and Warner Bros decided to do some sort of prequel. A lot of Aquaman's supporting players are set to show up in Justice League including Mera (Amber Heard) and Nuidis Vulko (Willem Defoe).

Justice League will be directed by Zack Snyder and stars Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, Ezra Miller, Ray Fisher. and Henry Cavill. It will be released on November 17, 2017.

Aquaman will be directed by James Wan and stars Jason Mamoa, Amber Heard, Nicole Kidman, Patrick Wilson, and Willem Defoe. It will be released December 21, 2018.
