There's No News On The Next Star Wars Anthology Film Yet, But Maybe There Will Be Next Month

To someone not skilled in the fine art of entertainment journalism, the lack of news about an upcoming popular film project would seem to take that project off the table as the subject of a news article. But to a professional entertainment journalist, even no news is often news, provided you're looking at it from the right angle.

Take this, for instance: there's no news on what will be the next Star Wars anthology film, which will probably be released in 2020. Lucasfilm simply hasn't decided yet, and they don't really need to, since they've got still Star Wars: The Last Jedi set to come out, a Han Solo solo film, and then Star Wars: Episode IX. So when Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy was asked about it in an interview with Vanity Fair, she responded:

Yes. We haven't identified it yet, but yes. We have a couple of things right now that we're circling, and we'll make a decision between the two pretty shortly. It's probably for 2020, and we will make a decision by June.

So in June there might be some news on the next Star Wars anthology film, but for now, there is none. That hasn't stopped cunning entertainment websites from making a news story about it, though. Next Star Wars Spinoff Will Be Decided By June, read a headline from CBR. New Star Wars Standalone Film To Be Decided Next Month, said ComicBook.com's. Kathleen Kennedy Confirms The Next 'Star Wars' Spinoff Will Be Decided On In June, promised Heroic Hollywood. Everyone who is anyone has a story up about this non-story. Who are we to buck the trend?

And thus, news has been made from a lack of news. Something has been created from nothing. We're like gods here in the entertainment journalism. Better than gods. Let there be clicks!

We'll see you back here in June when we have an update on this non-news news story, which may actually be news by then.

A prophecy once said that in the comic book industry's darkest days, a hero would come to lead the people through a plague of overpriced floppies, incentive variant covers, #1 issue reboots, and super-mega-crossover events. Sadly, that prophecy was wrong. Oh, Jude Terror was right. For ten years. About everything. But nobody listened. And so, Jude Terror has moved on to a more important mission: turning Bleeding Cool into a pro wrestling dirt sheet!
