Fewer Attendees, Fewer Comics Given Away, Fewer Participating Stores – Free Comic Book Day 2017

fcbdDiamond Comic Distributors have shared their survey results and statistics for Free Comic Book Day 2017 — and the word is it’s down on 2016’s performance.

2017 saw an attendance of 1.35 million people, down from 2016’s 1.45 million and 2015’s 1.4 million.

5.8 million comic books were ordered, down from more than 6 million in 2016.

2,289 participating store locations, down on 2016’s 2340 locations.

And activity created an estimated $5.3 million in free publicity, down from $6.5 million last year.

However, the number of official free comic books being offered increased from 50 in 2016 to 52 this year.

Apparently, fewer people want things for free in 2017. If they’re comic books, at least…

Any thoughts for 2018?
