Netflix Gets The Last Laugh: Adam Sandler In The Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected) Shocks Critics At Cannes

Amidst the controversy at Cannes over whether Netflix and Amazon should be allowed to exhibit films at the high-profile festivals without committing to the traditional theatrical distribution model, it appears that one of the Netflix films that Cannes did let in this year is stealing the show: The Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected) directed by Noah Baumbach and starring Adam Sandler, Emma Thompson, Dustin Hoffman, and Ben Stiller is generating huge buzz and very good reviews.

The headlines alone of some of these reviews are making me chuckle — no small feat on a Monday morning, let me tell you — but I suppose it has been awhile since a Sandler film (though the fact that it's not a Sandler film is the point, many critics are saying) generated positive buzz. The world is in shock – Adam Sandler has finally made a good movie, Glamour tells us, and Adam Sandler Will Make You Forget He's Adam Sandler, says Vanity Fair.  THR takes a more reserved approach with Netflix's 'Meyerowitz Stories' Gets Four-Minute Standing Ovation.

And I think that sums it up.  In a world where anything seems possible, the least we deserve is a really good comedy. The Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected) will be streaming on Netflix soon.
