WWE UK Championship To Be Defended This Friday In Network Special…With Jim Ross On Commentary

The WWE UK Championship tournament last year was a pretty awesome event, but like most people, I have wondered how they would move forward with their UK plans and Champion Tyler Bate. NXT seemed a logical choice, and while Bate has been around there some, another UK…something needs to happen. And now it is.

That’s right, this Friday at 3PM est (and airing again at 8PM) we will be getting a UK Special from Norwich, England. This one is also noteworthy because it will have Jim Ross on commentary for the second time since he signed back on with the WWE and the tragic death of his wife a little over a month ago. Look, a press release!

WWE Network will stream the WWE United Kingdom Championship Special this Friday, May 19, at 3 p.m. ET, with a re-airing in primetime at 8 p.m. ET. The action will be called by WWE Hall of Fame announcer Jim Ross, who will be joined by color analyst Nigel McGuinness.

Emanating from Norwich, England, WWE United Kingdom Champion Tyler Bate defends his title against the high-flying Mark Andrews, Pete Dunne and Trent Seven battle to become the No. 1 contender to face the U.K. Champion at NXT TakeOver: Chicago this Saturday, Wolfgang faces Joseph Conners, and Rich Swann & Dan Moloney take on TJP & The Brian Kendrick in a tag team match.

“The WWE United Kingdom Championship Special will showcase some of the best talent from the U.K.,” WWE Executive Vice President of Talent, Live Events and Creative Paul “Triple H” Levesque said. “This is an opportunity to super-serve our fans in the U.K., as well as fans anywhere who appreciate the U.K. style.”

The wording in the middle is a bit weird, if you don’t already know that this is a taped special setting up the title match this Saturday at NXT Takeover: Chicago. I won’t say here I guess, but here’s a hint: the title match is a rematch. They should have taped and aired this a week sooner than this so they could not spoil the outcome of two matches ahead of time, but whatever. The cool part is Ross on commentary. Lets hope this is the start of him bringing brought back into things on a more regular basis.
