Will The Live-Action Aladdin Be A Musical? Guy Ritchie Weighs In

AladdinAfter The Jungle Book made $900 million dollars worldwide last year and Beauty and the Beast hit a billion this year, the trend of the live-action remake of classic Disney movies isn't stopping anytime soon. While we don't have a production date for the remake of Aladdin yet, we do have a director in the form of Guy Ritchie.

The main question that follows a lot of these remakes is whether or not they will be musicals. Cinderella was not, The Jungle Book sort of was, and Beauty and the Beast definitely was, so it's very much up in the air. Cinema Blend caught up with Ritchie on his King Arthur: Legend of the Sword promo tour and asked him about it:

"I think it'd be tough not to make it a musical. It's too early, because I've really just immersed myself into that project. So, I'm still looking for cast members, we still haven't found exactly which direction we are going in. I'm confident at some stage, it will reveal itself to me."

It sounds like Ritchie is leaning toward making it as least partially a musical — and if the rumored casting of Will Smith as the Genie turns out to be true, it could be a very different musical than other Disney properties.
