The 4th And Final Season Of The Strain Will Premiere In July

The Strain

The final season of FX's The Strain is set to premiere at 10 p.m. EST/9 p.m. CST on July 16th, according to Deadline.

The show is based on a trilogy by Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan, with del Toro and Hogan both serving as writers and producers for the show. Carlton Cruse is the executive producer and showrunner. The show is one of the few that made the decision to end on its own terms, with del Toro saying back in 2012 that he believed the trilogy had enough material for "three to five seasons."

When the show was renewed for its fourth season, Cruse told Deadline that the crew was happy to have the opportunity to wrap everything up the way they want to.

"Our original plan was for the series to last three years," Cuse said today after the renewal of the fourth and final season was announced. "Once we began telling that story it expanded to be more. After finishing the writing on Season 3, Guillermo, Chuck and I looked at our remaining story and felt the best version could be told in one more season. We have a fantastic plan for an exciting and climatic Season 4. We are deeply grateful to FX for supporting our vision and for allowing us to end the show on our own timetable."

Deadline also posted a summary for the final season.

Season 4 picks up nine months later, with the world having fallen into darkness and the strigoi in control following the explosion at the end of Season 3 that triggered a global nuclear apocalypse. The resulting nuclear winter liberated the strigoi, allowing them to move about during daytime, and allowing the Master to establish a totalitarian regime. Preying on the fears of the populace, the Master and his minions have created an unsettling alliance in "The Partnership." The majority of humans now are working for the strigoi, operating with a single understanding — collaborate or die.
