$17 Million Thursday Puts Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 On Path For Big Weekend

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 had the highest preview night of the year, pulling in $17 million overnight — 4th best for a Marvel film behind Avengers: Age of Ultron ($27.6M), Captain America: Civil War ($25M) and The Avengers ($18.7M).

This puts estimates for today at $55 to $60 million and an opening weekend of $125 to $130 million. It isn't the $150 million range that was being talked about a few weeks back, but it's still an extremely impressive figure for a sequel whose original film brought in $94.3 million its opening weekend in 2014. And that's added to the $167 million the film took in internationally last weekend. Not bad for a film that cost $200 million to make.
