Suffering For His Art, Black Manta Actor Yahya Abdul-Mateen II To Read Aquaman Comics For Research

In preparation for his role as Black Manta in James Wan's Aquaman, Get Down actor Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is willing to go to any lengths. Even, it seems, reading… *gulp*… Aquaman comics. Following a Q&A on social media, the actor thanked fans for reading recommendations and posted a photo to Instagram of himself holding several recent Aquaman comics and a New Suicide Squad comic, along with the caption, "Looks like I've got some reading to do!" Famous last words?

Truly, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is dedicated to his craft. We've been writing about comic books on the internet for years, and we haven't actually read one since 1991. But Abdul-Mateen is diving into comics about a man whose superpower is talking to fish, and he's doing it with a smile on his face. God bless!

A prophecy once said that in the comic book industry's darkest days, a hero would come to lead the people through a plague of overpriced floppies, incentive variant covers, #1 issue reboots, and super-mega-crossover events. And so, Jude Terror has moved on to a more important mission: turning Bleeding Cool into a pro wrestling dirt sheet!
