Welcome to This Day in Pop Culture History, a daily look at important events, birthdays, and other oddities in pop culture! History is important, and we aim to educate here at Bleeding Cool, so without further ado, here are some things that have happened on April 19, the 109th day of the year:
1897- The first Boston Marathon is held.
1970- Broom-Hilda comic strip debuts.
1971- Salyut 1 becomes the first space station in orbit.
Today in gaming history saw the release of Need for Speed in Japan (1996), Hot Shots Golf 2 in the UK (2000), Psychonauts (2005), Mortal Kombat (2011).
Today in Pro Wrestling history, in 1998 WCW held its Spring Stampede show in Denver, Colorado. Matches included “Hollywood” Hulk Hogan and Kevin Nash defeated Roddy Piper and The Giant in a Baseball Bat on a Pole Match. And in the main event Randy “Macho Man” Savage defeated Sting in a No DQ match to capture the World Heavyweight Championship.
Today in Bleeding Cool history, in 2012 Chris Roberson quit DC Comics, and in 2013 you can follow the Saga of The Boston Comic Con through multiple posts.
