'Oregon Trail' Creators Getting Back To Educational Games

If you've ever played The Oregon Trail, then you've heard of the Minnesota Educational Computing Consortium, the original team who developed the game. According to a story in MinnPost, the band is getting back together to develop a new educational game to be sold to schools and parents looking to secretly teach their kids lessons at home.

The software in questions is currently called Re@l Experiences At Life, which will focus on STEM educational points and encourage learning about careers. The plan upon completion is to offer it via the web, including streaming it directly to classrooms so the students can operate the system themselves. (Most likely with teacher supervision in case they run into issues, while the teacher reads a book at their desk and finally get a free moment to themselves.) It'll be interesting to see what the company comes up with after an 18-year gap of being defunct. If it's anything like their previous games, it should be fun and challenging.
