Star Wars Forces Of Destiny Highlights The Women Of Star Wars In New Animated Shorts

EW
Star Wars: Forces of Destiny

Announced late tonight on the eve of Star Wars Celebration, a new series of animated shorts titled Forces of Destiny will debut on Disney YouTube in July. Starring Rey, Princess Leia, Jyn Erso, Hera Syndulla, Padme Amidala, Sabine Wren, Ahsoka Tano will star in the web Isolde's, all running about three minutes in length, with eight more premiering in the fall. They will then air packaged together in a pair of TV specials on The Disney Channel.

What's cool is that will will see some of these characters crossing over with each other as well, and it will all be cannon.

"One of the opportunities here was to tell the stories in between the larger moments and imagine some of the ways our characters have crossed," says Carrie Beck, an executive producer of the shorts and a member of the Lucasfilm story group braintrust. "It's all part of the larger swath of storytelling."

Also really awesome is that the original actresses will be voicing their respective roles except Princess Leia, as the late Carrie Fisher will be filled in for by Shelby Young, and Catherine Taber will be voice of Padme. That in of itself is pretty awesome. Some of the stories sound intriguing as well, including a story with Hera teaming up on Endor!?

Watch the teaser below, and look for more info in the morning as we wait for the first round of Star Wars: Celebration panels to start up.
