Kieron Gillen Takes His Complete Phonogram To The Pub
It's out next week. And, yes, it's gorgeous. I was able to prise it away from Kieron Gillen's firm grip in the pub last night.
I was immediately struck by how the colour is used, especially with the original series drawn by Jamie McKelvie being in black-and-white, given a knocked back palette which then changes through the book courtesy of Matthew Wilson and Clayton Cowles. Vertigo colours one might call them, except that there's not quite as much brown. But it's a way that the comics have been remastered to show a progression of time through the years, for both the characters in the comic and the creators. And, yes, it is jam packed with the never-before-reprinted "B-Sides" back-up strips written by Kieron Gillen and drawn by the likes of Laurenn McCubbin, Emma Vieceli, Leigh Gallagher and Marc Ellerby.
Out next week in comic book stores, and in bookstores a week later in the UK and US.
