Want Your Favorite Gamertag On The Switch? You Can Register It In Advance!

At one point in time or another, a lot of people have thought what the best gamertag would be for them if they just had gotten there first and beat the rush. What if I could play as "God" or "Mario" or even "Cloud?" Well, now you have your chance to claim your name ahead of time as Nintendo has opened up enrollment for free account IDs.

This week, Nintendo refreshed their Accounts System page to allow people to prepare for the launch of the Switch. Ignore all the other tedious things you've had to create usernames and passwords for, this is an entirely new system that will allow you to incorporate your Nintendo Network ID, use social media, or just good ol' email to create a new account for your system. The bonus to this is you can choose your gamertag/user ID ahead of time before the system even launches and claim whatever your favorite is that you use elsewhere.

One of the awesome bonuses is that it will also connect to your eShop account and show you all of your previous purchases, which means you'll be able to re-download previously purchased games easier on the new system. That in itself is a far easier system than the hoops you used to have to jump through with eShop's recovery system. Now let's see how long it takes before all the original usernames start requiring a number at the end. I already claimed my tag, what about you?

You can read some more about tying your Nintendo Account to your eShop on the Switch here.
