Marvel Casts Malaysian Actress Raja Ilya In An Unknown Role

Marvel Studios isn't just a well oiled machine in the production of their movies but also in how they hype them. We are so susceptible to it we discuss and ponder every casting announcement they make. (The irony of me saying this while making a post is not lost on me.) Marvel Studios announced that they have cast Malaysian actress Raja Ilya in a mysterious role in an unknown movie. Marvel has a history of casting relative newcomers in roles that define their future careers (Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston being two of the notable ones). Ilya was being interviewed by Star2 for her new movie Soulmate Hingga Jannah and mentioned the role. She has also been given the speech about the so-called "Marvel snipers" because she didn't say much about the role.

"I can't get any accurate shooting location for now. I've just been informed to fly to Hollywood by the end of the year for role selection and for which Marvel title [I'll be working on]," she explained.

Smart girl. Ilya says she is working with a trainer but there are few people who are involved in the Marvel Cinematic Universe that haven't had some sort of training. It would actually be more telling if she said that the role required no training at this point. As for how she got the role? It was one the oldest tricks in the book; networking.

"The offer came from someone I know from Indonesia who has already acted in a few Marvel and Disney movies…Now I just have to get prepared for the moment of my life," she said.

The Marvel hype train is already hard at work as to what Ilya could possibly be involved with but with so many things on the table right now it could be a number of things. There doesn't even appear to be a real confirmation that she'll be in the movie universe and not the Netflix world. The guess everyone keeps throwing out is Captain Marvel due to the time frame but we really have no way of knowing.
