During Frankfurt's Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival, Director and Producer Naoki Yoshida confirmed that Samurai was going to be the second new job made available by patch 4.0 Stormblood. Its likely that, much like Red Mage, we'll be able to pick Samurai up in the Realm Reborn areas of the game and progress the job from 50 up to 70.

Following the festival, Square Enix released new screenshots and art to commemorate the announcement. Some of those are below.

More details were obtained by Dual Shockers at the festival:

"Samurai will chain together three "sen" forces: Setsu (snow), Getsu (moon), and Ka (flower) in order. The job will also be able to store energy in that katana to unleash special attacks for massive damage. There are many different kinds of these attacks.

"We also learned that samurai job quests line will begin in the original areas of Eorzea.

"To fit the samurai, the map of the game has been expanded to include a new continent named Hingashi to the far east, beyond the lands controlled by the Garlean Empire, and  it will include Doma."

With the announcement of Samurai, fans have now taken to even more speculation than before. Three new jobs appeared to be teased during the official cinematic trailer announcing the new expansion, with two now confirmed as Samurai and Red Mage, it is likely that we'll see the third job made official. Current bets stand on it being Dancer.

Also mentioned at the show is the dev team's hope that they can take FFXIV to more consoles, though the inability for cross-platform play currently makes it unlikely for the game to appear on Xbox One or Nintendo Switch anytime soon.

The original announcement trailer is below.
