A Better Change For Nintendo As Switch Games Will Be Tied To Your Account

After years of suffering through the hell that was the Nintendo eShop, the company has finally wised up to modern gaming purchases and will finally make a grand change that many of us have been hoping for and wondering about with the Switch. From now on, games you purchase through the eShop will be tied to the account you have on your Switch, meaning that when you purchase a game, you’ll be able to redownload it using your account on another system instead of it being tied to that console or having to purchase it a second time.

The news dropped today from NintendoLife after Switch menus were leaked out to the public via Twitter. The text reads as such:

Your Nintendo account contains your Nintendo eShop purchase history and current balance. By re-linking your Nintendo Account after initializing the console, it will be possible to redownload any software or DLC purchased using that account. (Software that has been discontinued may not be available for redownload in some cases.)

This makes for excellent news and goes in theme with Nintendo finally having a system that’s on par with current generation systems. It’s also a nice bonus to know that if you have an awesome party game and you want to play it at a friend’s house, all you have to do is log in and download it. It also makes for great speculation that somewhere in the near future, if the Switch does well as a portable device, the days of the 3DS could be as numbered as the WiiU. Right now, transferring games from an old 3DS to a new one is a time-consuming trainwreck with a piece of technology that is somewhat outdated.
