" Despite dying fifty years before the invention of Twitter, Hopper's words have proven prophetic. For a while, we've been trying to come up with a good segment name for stories where anyone within five degrees of separation from any even vaguely geek-adjacent entertainment project doing absolutely anything at all on social media can turn into a hot story covered by every entertainment news site on the planet. We think we may finally have it, as the latest hollow "news" story making the rounds today involves a six word tweet from Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn.
That's right, James Gunn saying "No. It's going to be cooler." has absolutely blown up on the internet, even though it's the obvious answer to that question. Is James Gunn going to say that the opening sequence will not be as good as the first film? Of course he's going to say it will be cooler. It's his movie! That doesn't mean it will be, and it is of absolutely no value to readers whatsover.
Nonetheless, we will all write about it, and you will all click on it, and so it goes, and so it goes. The quote has ended up in the headlines of all the top entertainment news sites, with hundreds of pages of Google search results:
That's just the way we roll in the entertainment journalism business. The 24 hour entertainment news cycle is a hungry beast, and it must be constantly fed with garbage articles.
