When A Writer And Artist Are Utterly Divided On Politics – Indoctrination #1: Free On Bleeding Cool

Here is the first full issue of the recently released Indoctrination collection from Z2 Comics, with a little commentary from the politically divided creative team of left-wing progressive Michael Moreci and right-wing Republican Matthew Battaglia.

Michael Moreci says "Obviously, Indoctrination is about ISIS, and the story reflects Matt's and my views about who they are, as an international threat and a philosophical ideology. But underlying that is a story simply about the dangers of radicalization, and something Matt and I both agree on is the damaging messages from the radical left and right, and how they're shaping the United States. There's a reason why so many people are commenting on how social media has become 'weaponized;' it's because that space has become a battleground for unshakeable and far-leaning ideologies. We saw it in this election; the radical right helped a monster get into office, and the radical left were too unfocused to see what was going on. Both Matt and I voted for our respective candidates with reservation, as we both thought neither candidate was going to take us where we want to go–progress in economic, environmental, and social issues, and a scaling back in our military presence around the the world. And now that the dust is settled, I, for one, am terrified by what radical ideologies have given birth to, particularly ideologies that are racist, sexist, and fascist, and the way in which they're becoming way too mainstream for comfort. We are in the midst of a war of ideas, within our own borders and around the world, and INDOCTRINATION is very much about that."

And Matt Battaglia, "Considering the results of 2016 – this book remains relevant, radical islamic terrorists love using President Trump for their propaganda, and it seems certain that there will be more attempts at homegrown or foreign born terror. The attempts to hunt these people down while not curtailing civil liberties seems set to end with a further loss of freedoms at home. Our political system has become a battle of who can be more hypocritical. The Left is a complete trainwreck of hysteria who have yet to come to terms with their failures and most on the Right have generally sold-out their small government principles, because revenge tastes so good. This book is about how all this sucks. Mike & I come from opposite ends of the spectrum which has led to a tempered book that, I think, does a good job of cutting into all sides. Fortunately it's also just a normal rollicking crime story, so turn your brain on or shut it off, personally I think tuning out and enjoying good, smart, fiction is the best way to deal with the nonsense that's likely dominated your digital-social-life."
