Elder Scrolls Online: Morrowind Gets Cinematic Trailer, New Class, And New PvP Mode

Bethesda Softworks' Elder Scrolls Online will be getting a major new update in June of 2017. Players will be able to enter Morrowind's Vvardenfell island for over 30 hours of adventure. The update will also include a new player class, a new PvP mode, a new Trial (a twelve-player dungeon), among others.

The Elder Scrolls Online: Morrowind will be available on PC, Mac, Playstation 4, and Xbox One on June 6, 2017.

The new player class will be The Warden, seen for the first time in the trailer below.

As someone who is a ridiculously devoted fan of the original Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, I am beyond excited to return to Vvardenfell. Yeah, ESO may be another FTP MMO riddled with its problems, but I'm never going to not be excited to revisit the site of one of my longtime favorite games to see updated versions of some incredible game set design.

As ESO is set about 700 years before the events of Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, the landscape of Vvardenfell and some of its more renowned landmarks like Vivec city are still under construction. ESO: Morrowind will allow players to tag alongside the great warrior-poet turned god, Vivec – one of the three Aedra worshiped in Morrowind as the Tribunal – as he works to save the world from a deadly Daedric threat.

Bethesda is hoping that the Morrowind update will bring in new players for the MMO as well as bring back veterans with updated content. Those who already own Elder Scrolls Online can simply purchase an upgrade and jump into the new chapter while new players can sail directly to Morrowind thanks to the One Tamriel update from last October so they can entirely bypass most of ESO's previous content and return to it at will. Its the sort of open choice you'd expect of a Bethesda title, and its interesting to see it come to an MMO.

The new class, The Warden, "wields powerful nature-based magic and can be customized with a number of abilities to suit your playstyle". One of the key selling points of the Warden is its companion War Bear. Basically, The Warden is ESO's answer to the DnD Ranger. Other bonus items for the update include an exclusive warden costume, a dwarven war dog pet, and a treasure map, all are shown below.

Vvardenfell's ashlands are the site of the new PvP mode which allows for 4v4v4 battles in arena-like environments.

Personally, I've probably lost months of my life to the original Morrowind I've replayed it so much. So yeah, I'll be logging back in to ESO for this one even if it has devolved into a Pay-to-Win mess.
