Overwatch's Bastion's Big Buff Explained In Detail By Principle Designer

As reported the other day, Overwatch's Bastion is seeing a bit of work done on him in the near future. The hero who once menaced those who didn't know how to deal with him has now become a bit of a gimmicky pick as he has been well and truly figured out.

Well, now we have the details of exactly how the character will be changing. Taking to the Blizzard forums, principle designer Geoff Goodman revealed the buffs and tweaks the character is seeing to become more viable.

Recon Mode – Lowered spread and increased magazine size, to help with general viability in this mode.

This essentially would mean when Bastion is walking around, his gun would be better at shooting at distance and unload more before a reload.

Sentry Mode – We're looking at focusing this mode into more of a tank-buster and barrier-buster mode, while also making it feel less suicidal to be transformed. To that end we're testing stuff like increased spread and removing headshots, but taking less damage while transformed.

This seems to mean that Bastion, when he is a turret, will be less precise and more for taking out big targets rather than offensive or support players than right now, but also be harder to kill. So that is a reworking for good and ill for Bastion players.

Self-Repair – We've been testing a few big changes to this that are feeling really good so far. Currently our internal build has Bastion able to use Self-Repair while moving and also having it no longer interrupted when taking damage. To balance that out it is now on a resource system (similar to the route D.Va's defense matrix went). These changes have turned this ability from a more niche rarely used ability, to a much more powerful and core survivability tool.

So, this means Bastions can heal even when in Recon Mode and can't be interrupted, encouraging the ability to be used more often. However, it will be finite now too.

This is a big reworking of the character, and I really would love to see how this all works out.  It's coming to the PTR soon, so keep an eye out.
