Photo Reveals Han Solo Movie Has Begun Filming; Click Here Instead Of Seeing It On Twitter
Chris Miller, co-director of the upcoming Han Solo movie, has revealed that filming has begun on the movie, via a photo he posted on Twitter. Since it's a slow news day, and since every other site is doing it, we'll explain the plainly obvious things going on in the tweet as if you couldn't figure them out for yourself, to make it look like this is some kind of journalism going on here and not the simple reposting of a tweet on our website to siphon its clicks for ourselves. What you're looking at there is the "clapperboard," which is the technical term for "that thing that goes 'SNAP!' right after somebody shouts 'ACTION'" while making a movie. Though the clapperboard reads "Star Wars: Red Cup," this is just a "working title" for the film, likely referring to the Solo-brand plastic drinking cups. Get it? Solo? The real title for the film has yet to be revealed.
Miller also makes reference to the classic argument about how much George Lucas's "special edition" version of the Star Wars movies, which used digital editing to alter scenes, sucked. In the original version of Star Wars: Episode 4, Han Solo shoots bounty hunter Greedo preemptively after being threatened, but Lucas believed this made Han seem cold-blooded, so he altered the scene in a 1997 release of the film to show Greedo shooting and missing before Han shoots and kills him. In a later release, the scene was altered again to somehow seem even more awkward and out of place, with both men firing at roughly the same time. Nobody on the entire planet other than George Lucas likes either of these changes better, but Lucas insisted on preventing HD versions of the original theatrical cut from ever getting into the hands of fans for years, resulting in various fan projects to update and restore footage from various sources to make one. When Disney bought Lucasfilm in 2012, many fans quietly hoped that Disney would one day release an HD version of the theatrical cut on Blu Ray, but most of us know better than to hold our breath. Anyway, a popular argument is to state the truth of the theatrical release, which is that "Han shot first." Miller, instead, says "Han First Shot," referring to the first film shoot of the movie. It's a play on words. Chris Miller has a lot of jokes, apparently.
The untiled solo Han Solo movie is set to be released in 2018, though fans will get more Star Wars before then, with Star Wars: The Last Jedi, episode 8 in the sequel trilogy, hitting theaters in December.
