Guillermo Del Toro Is Not Involved In the Creative Development Of Death Stranding

A lot of people were excited about the idea of Hideo Kojima and Guillermo Del Toro working together on Silent Hills. The two are brilliant creative minds, and P.T. showed there was real potential there. Alas, it wasn't meant to be as Kojima left Konami and the game was cancelled.

On Kojima's next project, Death Stranding, many were very excited for another collaboration when Del Toro turned up in a trailer for the game. Alas, it doesn't look like it is meant to be. Speaking to IGN, Del Toro said his only involvement in the game is with the character and he isn't working on the title in any other capacity. He said:

I'm involved as a character. Kojima-san called me and said, 'I want you to be a character in the game,' and I said, 'Gladly.' He's discussed his ideas so I could understand the character, but other than that I'm not involved, creatively, at all.

This is entirely Kojima-san's game. I think it's gonna be a fantastic game, 100%. But this is him and his ideas. I'm just a puppet in his hands. My contribution is limited to being a cheerleader for his ideas and being scanned for long hours at a time. That's about it.

This isn't really surprising, as you'd think Kojima Productions would shout about this from the rooftops if he had. Still, nice to have it confirmed.
