Batman v. Superman Underperforms Again, Misses Two Categories On Razzies Shortlist

In what is clearly a missed opportunity for Zack Snyder’s grim and gritty opus, Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, the film has been listed just eight times in the nomination ballots for this year’s Razzies, according to a report from Comic Book Movie. The Golden Raspberry Awards aim to celebrate the worst in film each year, so Batman v. Superman is an obvious shoe-in. However, the film’s lack of a standout terrible performance by a female actor has caused the awards to snub the hated film in both the the Worst Actress and Worst Supporting Actress categories.

The film did attempt to make up some ground, landing both Jeremy Irons and Jesse Eisenberg in the Worst Supporting Actor category, and both Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill in Worst Actor. Most critics believe that Eisenberg’s performance was so bad, it could probably transcend gender boundaries and land him nominations in both categories, but the Razzie committee didn’t see it that way, it appears.

According to industry sources, some behind the scenes believe that Batman v. Superman attempted to coast by on the reputation of Man of Steel, failing to put extra effort into securing an awful actress to ensure a sweep of the awards. Having learned their lesson, Snyder and Warner Bros will likely try to step up their game for Justice League, set to hit theaters in November.

Here’s the full list, which has been sent out to voters, who will choose five from each category.

About Jude Terror

A prophecy says that in the comic book industry's darkest days, a hero will come to lead the people through a plague of overpriced floppies, incentive variant covers, #1 issue reboots, and super-mega-crossover events.

Scourge of Rich Johnston, maker of puns, and seeker of the Snyder Cut, Jude Terror, sadly, is not the hero comics needs right now... but he's the one the industry deserves.
