Sherlock – The Problem With Shooting Years Apart

As a fan, the wait between Sherlock series can seem to be insanely long. Game of Thrones started a year later, yet we're coming up to season 7 of the HBO series while we are just getting started on series 4 of Sherlock. And it seems like forever between GoT series. But there's a downside for the producers of the series as well. Mark Gatiss, co-creator of the series and Mycroft Holmes, talks about it in this behind-the-scenes video for the christening scene in The Six Thatchers. This is the next big event for John (Martin Freeman) and Mary (Amanda Abbington) and you'd think they would invite some of the people from their wedding… except that was three years ago filming wise and only a handful of the same actors were available.

David Nellist, the actor who brought Sherlock (Benedict Cumberbatch) and Watson together as Mike Stamford, didn't appear at the wedding nor the christening… yet he was able to return for the filming of The Abominable Bride. That's a true friend, he may not make the trivial thinks like weddings and births, but when you need him 120 years in the past… he's your man.
