Peter Capaldi On Stepping Down From Doctor Who – “Not For A Long Time, I Hope”

On BBC 1’s Andrew Marr Show this morning, Peter Capaldi popped by the studios to promote the upcoming Doctor Who Christmas Special.

He reacted with amusement to the news that Prime Minister Theresa May always liked to watch Doctor Who on Christmas night, adding that he hoped she took on its message of kindness and tolerance to heart.

He mentioned how the Christmas Specials are often watched by people who don’t normally watch the show, which gives them a different role. And how this year’s superhero episode has more in common with earlier superhero movies than the modern, more grittier ones.

He talked about his decision to move house before his episodes began, as he lived next to a park, where ice cream vans used to park and considered himself a little…. exposed. But he also talked about the welcoming of fans, especially children, who gasped when he walked into a room.

And when asked if he was planning to move on soon from the role, told Sophie Rayworth “not for a long time, I hope.”

Watch the whole thing here.

And here’s their Christmas message to you all.
