See An EXCLUSIVE Preview Of Tim Fielder's Matty's Rocket #3

Earlier this week, we told you to check out the New York Times piece on Afrofuturism, which heavily featured cartoonist Tim Fielder for his comic Matty's Rocket and other work (and the story appears in The Times' print magazine as well). The third issue of Matty's Rocket is out in late December or early January in time for Schomburg Black Comic Festival at the New York Public Library, and Bleeding Cool has an EXXXCLUSIVE preview for you.

Matty's Rocket is a galaxy spanning tale about the adventures of space pilot Matty Watty. This series is based in an alternative past where the pulp stylings of Buck Rogers, Flash Gordon, and Fritz Lang's Metropolis collide with the real world events of World War 2, FDR, Nazis, the Harlem Renaissance and the oppressive Jim Crow era, Watch as Matty navigates her vessel through a dangerous world filled with evil villains, heroic feats, alien oddities and down home adventure.

The comic will be out at the end of the year from Dieselfunk Studios, and you can order it then at the new Deiselfunk Store, where you can also, by the way, pick up the first two issues right now, as well as prints, t-shirts, and sweatshirts. And if you need a little more free Matty's Rocket to persuade you, you can read the webcomic here, and it's always worth watching the 2014 animatic trailer, which should get you up to speed quickly:

On the subject of bringing Matty's Rocket multi-platform, Fielder tells Bleeding Cool, "Transmedia is not the future. Transmedia is the PRESENT. RPGs, Streaming episodic series, 3d printed toys; all with the intent to make a multi-tiered narrative. Think Matty's Rocket the comic, that continues into Matty's Rocket the TV series on Netflix then to Matty's Rocket the VR show. It's where IT IS NOW."

We'll keep you updated on future developments here.

Jude TerrorAbout Jude Terror

A prophecy once said that in the comic book industry's darkest days, a hero would come to lead the people through a plague of overpriced floppies, incentive variant covers, #1 issue reboots, and super-mega-crossover events. Sadly, that prophecy was wrong. Oh, Jude Terror was right. For ten years. About everything. But nobody listened. And so, Jude Terror has moved on to a more important mission: turning Bleeding Cool into a pro wrestling dirt sheet!
