Image Reveals Southern Bastards Feminist Agenda Variant, Immediately Accused of "Pandering To SJWs"

Last week, Bleeding Cool told you about Jason Latour's "Feminist Agenda" variant cover, paying tribute to the "Ask Me About My Feminist Agenda" variant cover by Joelle Jones that led to Mockingbird writer Chelsea Cain being driven off the internet by harassment.

Latour's variant, for he and Jason Aaron's Southern Bastards #16, would see its proceeds donated to charity: the ACLU and the SPLC.

Today, Image sent out a press release about the variant, featuring a full picture of the cover, and prompting a lot more news coverage (though you heard it here first, pip pip, and all that). And it didn't take long for Latour to need to make the following tweets defending the cover:

Anyway, here's the press release from Image, along with the full variant cover:

SOUTHERN BASTARDS CREATORS RESPOND TO ONLINE HARASSMENT TRENDS
WITH CHARITY VARIANT

In response to the recent trend toward online harassment, Jason Latour and Jason Aaron's SOUTHERN BASTARDS #16 issue will feature a special variant cover to benefit charity. The proceeds raised by this variant will be split between the SOUTHERN POVERTY LAW CENTER and the ACLU.

This special "DON'T BE A BASTARD" charity variant cover by series co-creator Latour is part of the ongoing "Roberta Tubb" variant series, showcasing SOUTHERN BASTARDS' protagonist Roberta Tubb, interpreted by some of comics' brightest artistic talents.

This is not the first time Latour and Aaron have announced a variant to benefit charity. The SOUTHERN BASTARDS #10 charity variant raised $18,000 for the victims of the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church shooting in Charleston, SC.

SOUTHERN BASTARDS is a bestselling, Eisner Award-winning comic series that has been praised for its honest portrayal of Southern culture.

SOUTHERN BASTARDS #16 Cover B "Don't Be a Bastard" by Latour (Diamond Code NOV168192) will be available on Wednesday, January 11th. The Final Order Cutoff deadline for comic book retailers is Monday, December 19th.
