Can You Help Peter Doherty After Injury And Coma?

peterThis weekend, comic book artist and colourist Peter Doherty found himself on the Official Angouleme List, courtesy of his work on Jupiter's Legacy.

It's a bittersweet nomination, sadly, as Doherty is currently in hospital having suffered a torn aorta – that's the main artery of the body, supplying oxygenated blood to the circulatory system – two weeks ago. He was placed in an induced coma, but he is now awake, though very unwell.

He also needs 2-3 weeks in hospital and convalescence time. And while his medical treatment is covered, he does have financial pressure of being unable to work.

So his friends are pitching in. His daughter Hope has said that any money is raised by this, it should be Peter's decision – when he's well enough – as to how it's used, whether as originally intended (to offer some support to him) or perhaps he might choose to donate any money raised to the hospital unit that cared for him.

There will also be an arrangement to raise money through donated artwork, but for now there's a Go Fund Me Page which has already raised its initial goal of £5000, but more would be needed.

A genial soul, Peter is loved by many. Familiar names who have donated sums already include Duncan Fegredo, Sean Phillips, Rob Williams, John Wagner, Kev Walker, Eddy Choi, Annie Parkhouse, Al Ewing, Jeff Lemire, Lucy Millar, Ian Edginton, Gart Erskine, Jamie Rich, Antony Johnston and Richard Starkings. Why not join them? I did.
