Showrunner Bryan Fuller Leaves Star Trek: Discovery Weeks Before It Will Go Into Production

The idea of a Bryan Fuller headed Star Trek show was an enticing one. I love his output and seeing him run amok in the universe could have been fun.

Sadly it seems it isn't to be. With the show prepping to go into production, Variety report Fuller has left the role as showrunner, leaving exec. producers Gretchen Berg and Aaron Harberts in charge. The reason appears to be Fuller's incredibly full plate, meaning he can't dedicate his attention to day-to-day maintenance of the show.

It does seem the split as fairly amicable though. Fuller is still on to exec. produce the show still, and it will be using his framework and foundation to map out the first season. It's also said he will 'actively' be involved with the show and that CBS is happy with the scripts he's already submitted.

It is a shame that Fuller hs left the active role of the project, but it does all seem to be understanding and in good faith. His work will likely still feel very present and if it needs to happen for the show to get made, you gotta do what you gotta do.
