Iceland Refused To Be In FIFA 17 Because EA Low Balled The Offer Say KSI

Iceland performed incredibly well at the Euros this summer, knocking out England after the Group stages. They captured a lot of the football community's heart with their antics, so you'd expect to see the team turn up in FIFA 17, right?

Well, sadly, that is not the case. EA did get in contact with the KSI (Icelands' footballing board) about obtaining the rights to the team, but they declined saying that the $15,000 was no where near high enough. Speaking to the BBC, KSI president Geir Thorsteinsson explained the situation, saying:

They are the ones buying these rights and they almost want it for free. The performance at the Euros show that we are quite a good team and many would like to play with our team. It's sad for the players – but the criticism should be towards EA Sports.

The fee that EA pays teams included in the game covers the use of trademarks and image rights.I really feel if we are giving away rights, or offering rights, it has to be proper negotiations and fair fees.

I didn't feel that this was done in a fair and open manner.

I suppose that is fair enough, but it is a real shame. It's hard to know how much EA low balled the team without the context of how much the other nations were offered, but really, it is just a shame for players of FIFA and the players in the team that they won't be included.
