In The Heart Of The Jungle Book – A Review

JBIf you told me years ago that the guy from Swingers was going to be a major film director… I might have laughed. But Jon Favreau showed what he could do on Iron Man and he continues to improve with The Jungle Book. For a film that has so few humans in it, it's a showcase about humanity… both the good and the bad.

This adaptation of the Rudyard Kipling film is gorgeous with amazing special effects, but what make the movie work is the heart and the performances of Bagheera (Ben Kingsley), Shere Khan (Idris Elba), Kaa (Scarlett Johansson), Baloo (Bill Murray); and King Louie (Christopher Walken).

The Jungle Book is now available on Disney Movies Anywhere, Blue-Ray, DVD and Digital HD download… and with that, we must look at the extras because that's what makes buying the movie worthwhile to some. There are basically four extras. A commentary track with Jon Favreau. Normally I like when there is more than one person on the commentary, but Favreau is fun to listen to on his own. A behind-the-scenes look at the I Wan'na Be Like You sequence, another piece that follows actor Neel Sethi on his journey of being a young actor around big named talent. And finally a nice feature on how the Jungle Book was adapted / reimagined by Disney. This makes up about 2 hours of bonus footage.

Disney's The Jungle Book is a rare thing in the film industry, it's a family friendly movie that everyone in the family will enjoy.
