Though Netflix played coy about Stranger Things returning during the recent Television Critics Association Summer Press Tour, the streaming service has officially renewed the series for a second season of nine-episodes, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Writers/creators Matt and Ross Duffer will return to explore their retro sci-fi/horror world in 2017. The Duffers told Entertainment Weekly that the series will continue to tell a story in Hawkins, Indiana with most of the first season cast likely to return.
“We don’t know about Eleven,” teased Ross Duffer.
Additionally, there will be four new characters added to the mix and the character will venture further outside Hawkins. They also hope to delve further into the Upside Down. “We’ve opened up this doorway, and to us it’s exciting to talk about, like, what else is behind there? There’s a lot more mystery there to be solved,” Ross Duffer told the site.
