Good news for Earpers! Syfy has announced Wynonna Earp will return next year. The announcement came with typical humor from star Melanie Scrofano. “I … had a burrito for lunch,” she said. “And we’re coming back for season two!”
“A huge shoutout to Syfy,” she added.
The show’s future was not guaranteed and fans launched a campaign to bring the show back on Twitter. The online response was part of the choice to bring the show back. “The crusade you started to renew the show was very much heard by Syfy,” said actress Katherine Barrell, who recurs on the show as fan favorite Officer Haught “So good job!”
The news was met with a a lot of cheers from the filled-to-capacity room.
Scrofano recalled when the cast first heard the news they were coming back. “It was two days ago,” she said. “And we sit down and we’re struggling with the menu and then [showrunner Emily Andras] comes on FaceTime and says ‘We just want to let you know, we’re going have a season two!” The excitement was immediate and all the recent pictures on Instagram in the last few days were their excitement over returning.
Of course, it is unclear what will happen when the show returns, including the debate between TeamDoc and TeamDolls. “Doc isn’t stupid enough to make her choose,” said Tim Rozon, who plays Doc, when asked about it. “But one man isn’t enough for Wynonna Earp. I mean, I don’t mind if its me.”
“I’ll say this,” added Shamier Anderson. “Wynonna likes her men like she likes her coffee.”
Wynonna’s Creator Beau Smith hopes to one day see Valdez from the comics to make the jump to the screen. “I hope they take a lot from the comics.” But at the same time, he loves the characters created for the show.
During the panel, show runner Andras appeared via a video message thanking the fans for “coming on the ride with us and live tweeting us.”
“We’re all Earpers,” she added.
Wynonna Earp will return to Syfy in 2017.
